Schmonzcast #9: I performed in recital Saturday afternoon at the annual conference of the Rachmaninoff Society. This is not that performance. Instead, this is a recording of another piece I made Thursday morning at Yamaha Artist Services after I'd finished rehearsing. During all my years away from the piano, Rachmaninov's Prelude in D, Op. 23 No. 4 refused to desert my fingers; I could touch the keys twice a year and most of it would still be there. It was Medtner who would ultimately bring me all the way back, but it was Rachmaninov who eternally kept me within reach.
